Case Study: Liquid P500 Gives Textbook Finish to Scottish Roof Project

The brief

Looking to expand our presence in Scotland, we were enlisted by roofers Tait and Mapp on a project of four 250 square metre roofs in the East Lothian region.

Originally built in the 1970s, the roof had since weathered and degraded to a critical point wherein it would not have made it through the winter without quick attention as there were multiple issues across the whole roof, which could have led to failure. This meant a swift solution was essential.

We were brought on board to conduct full site surveys and core testing, as well as to advise Tait and Mapp’s approach to installation, and provide on hand technical support throughout every step of the process. We’ve been gradually expanding our presence in Scotland over the past year and this project turned out to be a great foothold for us to demonstrate our expertise and ability there.

The solution

Key for this project was a material that would hold fast against some harsh wind, rain, and other weather conditions during installation, and could be easily installed on the four complicated roofs. For this reason, we specified the PermaRoof 500 liquid roofing solution to be used across four separate roofs, as well as the RubberGard EPDM due to its extreme weather resilience and flexibility.

The P500 system is made up of a polyurethane liquid membrane, producing a highly elastomeric waterproofing solution, with an ETA certification for a 25-year life expectancy. Additionally, application of just one coat provides complete waterproofing in under 30 minutes with rapid resistance technology, without giving up any quality in vapour transmission.

Due to the complicated nature of the roofs in need of repair, the liquid solution allowed an easy application that meant the installation gave a textbook finish across all four.
